The girl in the photograph below left home at twelve for a career in music. She became China’s most famous female singer. Here we see her during the Sino-Vietnam war, performing for the troops.
The young man below left home aged twelve and grew up in the poorest village in China, but went on to become the most famous man in China. Here we see him during the Sino-Vietnam war, where he was assistant to an old war buddy of his father’s, the Secretary for Defense.
The two never met during the war, but were introduced later by mutual friends, married, and lived happily ever after.
